The early medieval curtis of Publice was founded in the second half of the 10th century, within the Turinese diocese’s sphere of interest. The Castle was built by Bishop Landolfo between 1010 and 1037 and in 1347 was destroyed by Giovanni Visconti’s army. Today, only one of the four towers of the Castle is still extant. In the 19th century it was turned into a private house and for a few years it hosted Count Brassier of Saint-Simon, the Prussian ambassador to the Kingdom of Sardinia. In 1863 George Perkins Marsh, the first American ambassador to the Savoy Court, and his wife Caroline Crane lived here. It has been property of the Town of Piobesi since 1998. The medieval tower (dating back to the 14th century) and the rooms on the ground floor, including the former chapel (currently hosting the town public library) are open to visitors, along with the Italian gardens. In 2006 an agreement was signed, granting IFSE the use of the whole manor for the creation of the “Educational Centre in Healthy Cooking”, with the exception of the town library, that is however open to all those attending IFSE courses.
